So I made a skirt and when I stand it's perfect but when I sit it's tight on my hips . I recall measuring it with one finger in . Do you recommend keeping the feet slightly apart when taking hip measurements for ease of sitting down ?

Taking it all way down can throw pockets off if you take up much.

I’m in my late fifties and learning how to sew my own clothes. I was desperately searching for a tutorial for lengthening the back of a circle skirt….none to be found, until I found your tutorial! My youngest daughter & I were discussing this exact same thing, not ten minutes before I found your video - how skirts are higher in the back than the front (of ‘healthy’ backsides) & how everyone measures down the side of their body, never discussing about the shorter length of the back vs the longer front. Literally doesn’t look right, & it’s very noticeable on more heavier people who have larger backsides. THANK YOU for making this known!❤

There is one thing that doesn’t make sense, and it might just be a mistake in reversing the front and back panels. Pattern pieces are normally LONGER in the BACK and WIDER for fitted skirts. Circle or flared skirts already have extra space for the backside, so it’s not necessary to add more width, unless you have a really large buttocks. Because the butt usually sticks out more then the stomach it takes more fabric to get around it. If the length is the same all the way around, the butt can make the skirt look shorter in the back. You would only want to take length off on the front panel, if you have a larger butt you can also add some length to the back panel. Fitted skirts for women with a big tush, you might also want to add extra width to the back panel as well.
